Con X Tech Prize 2018: Bring your tech idea to life

Conservation X Labs (CXL) invites applications for Con X Tech Prize 2018. CXL is seeking bold ideas for technology solutions to conservation challenge.Aimed specifically at projects teams that are preparing their first prototype, the Con X Tech Prize could provide a $3,500 grant to take your idea from blueprint to reality.

CXL is seeking novel and transformative tools to conserve the world’s biodiversity and end human-induced species extinctions.

The Con X Tech Prize is a Global competition. It is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia, as well as any other jurisdiction where the competition is not prohibited or restricted by law.The grant competition is not open to residents of Quebec or any country subject to international sanctions which would limit participation or the receipt or transfer of funding.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age (or the local age of majority where they live, if higher).

Participants who already have working prototypes of their ideas are not eligible to apply, although those who want to make substantial modifications to existing prototypes or product pivots are eligible.


First Stage Prototyping Grants: Up to twenty (20) project team Finalists will be awarded a prototyping grant of $3,500 each.

Second Stage Grant: One (1) second-stage grant of $20,000 will be offered. Additional support will be provided to assist the development and scaling of the idea through the Digital Makerspace and in partnership with Conservation X Labs.


First, complete a project application to create a project on the Digital Makerspace. Second, submit your project to the Con X Tech Prize to be considered for a prototyping grant.

Evaluation criteria

In the first stage, each submission will be evaluated to what extent their project idea meets the following criteria:

  1. Transformative and Novel
  2. Impactful
  3. Financially Sustainable and Scalable
  4. Ecologically Sustainable
  5. Culturally Appropriate and Socially Responsible
  6. Feasible
  7. Interdisciplinary or Multidisciplinary
